ENDANGERED PLANT PERMIT APPLICATION FORM
For Professional Educators

Any organization participating in the EPSN must first complete an application form and apply for a permit from the State Botanical Garden of Georgia (SBG). Permits are required by the state of Georgia as specified under the 1973 Wildflower Preservation Act. It is against the law to have in your possession any state protected plant species or their seed without a permit. State protected plants cannot be transported, propagated, or sold without written permission from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Georgia Natural Heritage Program.

The GA. Heritage Program has given permission to SBG to operate in Georgia. SBG serves as permit liaison for the Heritage Program and coordinates the permitting process for all schools participating in the project.

The application form is designed to illustrate a class’s understanding of endangered plants, plant propagation, and the goals of the project. The application must be completed by teachers and their students. It consists of a series of questions and requests a diagram of the endangered plant site on the school grounds and a summer plan for the care of these plants.

No organization will receive seeds or plants without first obtaining a Permit. Permits last one year following an academic calendar, and therefore a school must reapply every year. The Permit give permission for propagation and planting in prepared areas on the school grounds.
